Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

What areas do you cover?

We cover Stoke-on-Trent, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Stafford, Crewe, and the surrounding villages, Stone, Kidsgrove, Sandbach, Cheadle, and similar postcodes. If you're not sure whether your address is within range, give us a call on 07756 518118 and we'll let you know straight away.

How long have you been trading?

JME Heating Solutions is run by Joseph Edwards, who has ten years of hands-on experience in the heating industry. The business is owner-led, so every job you book is carried out personally, no subcontractors, no rotating engineers, just consistent workmanship from the same person.

Are you Gas Safe registered?

Yes. We're Gas Safe registered, which is the legal requirement for any work on natural gas appliances in the UK. The engineer carries a Gas Safe ID card and you're welcome to ask to see it. Every installation, service, and repair we carry out is signed off against the national safety standard.

What are your working hours?

Standard hours are Monday to Sunday, 08:00 to 20:00. We work weekends as well as weekdays, handy for jobs that need to fit around shift work or busy households. For urgent breakdowns outside these hours, give us a call and we'll see what we can do.

Do you offer free quotes?

Yes, every installation quote is free and no-obligation. For boiler swaps and larger radiator jobs, we come out, look at the system, and give you a written price covering everything, parts, labour, removal of the old kit, the lot. No hidden extras when the invoice arrives.

How do I pay?

We accept bank transfer, debit and credit cards, and cash. Payment is usually due on completion of the work. For larger installation jobs we can talk through staged payments if it helps you spread the cost, just ask when you book.

How long does a boiler swap take?

Most boiler swaps are completed in a single day, as long as everything goes to plan. A like-for-like combi swap is usually finished by mid-afternoon, while a more involved job, relocating the boiler, fitting new pipework, upgrading controls, may stretch into the next day. We give you a clear timeline as part of the quote.

Will it be a messy job?

There's always a bit of dust and a lot of tools about during a boiler swap, but your home will be properly protected, dust sheets down, carpet protector laid, work area kept tidy. When we're finished, the home is left in the same condition it was in before we started. Cleaning up is part of the job, not an afterthought.

How much does a new boiler cost?

Most domestic boiler installations land between £2,500 and £4,000 fitted. The exact figure depends on the boiler you choose, the size of the system, and whether any extra pipework, controls, or system upgrades are needed. We give you a fixed written quote up front so you know the full cost before any work starts.

What boiler brands do you fit?

We install all the major brands, Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Baxi, Ideal, Glowworm, and others. For longer warranty cover at sensible money, Worcester and Vaillant are usually our go-tos. We'll talk through the options based on your home, your budget, and how long you want the warranty to last.

Do you remove the old boiler?

Yes. Removing the old boiler, disconnecting it safely, and disposing of it responsibly is included as part of every installation. You don't need to arrange anything separately, it's all part of the quote.

What warranty comes with a new boiler?

Every new boiler we fit comes with a manufacturer-backed warranty, typically between 5 and 12 years depending on the brand and model. We register the warranty on your behalf and hand over the paperwork at the end of the install, so the cover is in place from day one.

How often should I get my boiler serviced?

You should have your boiler serviced once per year to maintain the boiler's safe operation and to keep the warranty valid. Annual servicing also keeps the boiler running efficiently, a poorly maintained boiler quietly wastes gas and money long before it breaks down.

How much is a boiler service?

A standard annual boiler service is between £65 and £350 depending on the boiler make and model, the access, and what extra work is required. Most domestic combi services land at the lower end of the range. We confirm the exact price when you book.

What does an annual service include?

We inspect the burner, heat exchanger, gas pressures, flue, ventilation, and safety controls. The case comes off, components are cleaned where needed, and we run a combustion analysis to verify the boiler is firing safely and efficiently. You get a written report covering everything that was checked.

When is the best time of year to service my boiler?

Autumn, September or October, is the popular slot. You go into winter knowing the heating is safe, efficient, and warranty-protected. That said, any time of year is fine; the boiler doesn't mind when the service happens, as long as it happens once every twelve months.

Does servicing keep my warranty valid?

Yes. Almost every modern boiler warranty requires an annual service by a Gas Safe registered engineer to remain valid. We log the service details, issue the certificate, and update your warranty record on your behalf. If you ever need to claim, the paperwork is ready.

What if you find a problem during the service?

We're honest about what we find. If something is wearing out or genuinely needs attention, we explain the issue, give you a fair price for the repair, and let you decide whether to go ahead. We don't push unnecessary work, small problems flagged now save bigger bills later.

Will new radiators give off more heat?

Yes, most of the time people notice a real difference. A new radiator runs significantly hotter than an old, scaled-up one because the internal flow is unrestricted and the heat-output rating is what the manufacturer says it is. It's one of the most cost-effective ways to make a cold room feel warm.

How much does a new radiator cost?

Most radiator installations are between £200 and £500 per radiator depending on the size, the model you pick, and any pipework changes. Like-for-like swaps sit at the lower end; designer panels, towel rails, and rad swaps with pipework reroutes are towards the higher end.

Can you fit designer or towel rail radiators?

Yes. We fit standard convector panels, low-profile designer radiators, vertical column rads, and heated towel rails. We can recommend a model if you're not sure, output, dimensions, and whether the heat will actually be enough for the room are the three things that matter most.

How long does a radiator swap take?

A single like-for-like radiator swap is usually finished in one to two hours. We drain the relevant section of the system, swap the radiator, refill, bleed the air out, and balance the system so every radiator heats up evenly. Multi-radiator jobs take longer but follow the same process.

Will you make a mess?

No more than absolutely necessary. We drain the system carefully, catch any drips, and lay down protection where we're working. Old radiators get taken away with us so you don't need to deal with disposal. The room is left tidy and the heating noticeably warmer.

Do you balance the system after fitting new radiators?

Yes. System balancing is part of every radiator job. We adjust the lockshield valves so the flow is even across the whole system, meaning every radiator hits temperature at roughly the same rate, no room is cold while another cooks, and the boiler doesn't have to overwork to heat the property.
